FarageExposed Requests Clarification Over Nigel Farage’s Clacton Property

FarageExposed.co.uk has today contacted the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards to request clarification regarding the funding and ownership of the property Nigel Farage MP has stated he will use as his constituency base in Clacton.

Our request does not allege wrongdoing. Instead, it raises questions about transparency and consistency, following a series of public statements made by Mr Farage about the purchase.

Mr Farage told the media that he had “bought a house in Clacton” and that he had “exchanged contracts” on the property. However, subsequent reporting showed that the house is legally registered solely in his partner’s name. Mr Farage later described his earlier statements as a “slip of the tongue.”

Because the house:

  • was reportedly purchased without a mortgage,
  • is of high value,
  • is structured in a way that would have different tax implications were Mr Farage an owner, and
  • was the subject of contradictory public statements,

We believe that clarification is in the public interest — particularly as Mr Farage frequently states that he may become the next Prime Minister.

As of today, there is no publicly available record of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards having reviewed this matter.

Our letter therefore asks whether clarification is appropriate regarding:

  • any potential financial or beneficial interest Mr Farage may hold in the property,
  • whether any contribution toward the purchase should have been declared, and
  • whether the public statements he made were consistent with MPs’ requirements for accuracy and transparency.

FarageExposed.co.uk is committed to documenting public claims and ensuring they are presented with clarity and factual context. We will update this page should the Commissioner’s office respond.

Dear Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards,

I am writing on behalf of FarageExposed.co.uk, an independent public-interest project that documents and verifies public statements made by political figures, with the aim of supporting transparency and public understanding. We are non-partisan and focus on recording factual information for the public record.

We wish to request clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding a property purchased in Clacton which Nigel Farage MP has stated he will use as his constituency base.

Mr Farage made several public statements asserting that he had “bought a house in Clacton” and that he had “exchanged contracts” on the property himself. Subsequently, public reporting indicated that the house is legally owned solely by his partner. Mr Farage later described his earlier comments as a “slip of the tongue.”

Given the value of the property, the absence of a recorded mortgage, and the potential implications for stamp duty and beneficial ownership, these conflicting statements have raised understandable questions about whether Mr Farage may have any financial or beneficial interest in the property, or whether any contribution or involvement in the purchase should have been declared under the MPs’ Code of Conduct.

We wish to emphasise that we are not alleging wrongdoing. However, because:

  • Mr Farage publicly stated he had personally purchased the property;
  • later statements contradicted this;
  • the ownership structure delivers a material difference in tax liability were Mr Farage to be an owner; and
  • there is, to our knowledge, no published Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards investigation addressing this matter specifically;

we believe that clarification from your office would assist in maintaining public confidence in parliamentary standards.

We therefore respectfully ask whether your office considers it appropriate to seek clarity from Mr Farage regarding:

  • whether he holds any undeclared financial or beneficial interest in the Clacton property;
  • whether he contributed funds, loans, gifts or support toward the purchase; and
  • whether his public statements about purchasing the property were consistent with the transparency requirements of the MPs’ Code of Conduct.

Given Mr Farage’s repeated public assertions that he is likely to become the next Prime Minister, transparency regarding his financial interests is particularly important to the public.

We thank you for your time and for the vital work your office does in upholding trust in Parliament.

Yours faithfully,
FarageExposed.co.uk – Public Documentation & Transparency Project
